Information

  1. All OCI applications will be submitted online along with the requisite documents (self-attested), photograph and signature (in the case of minors who cannot sign, left hand thumb impression (for boys) and right-hand thumb impression (for girls).
  2. After filing of the online OCI application and uploading the supporting documents, signature, and photograph online, applicants must submit the supporting documents and relevant fees to BLS International (outsourced agency of High Commission/Consulate General of India) for necessary verification.
  3. No OCI application or service request will be accepted in the offline mode any longer.

Who can apply?

Following categories of foreign nationals are eligible for registration as Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) Cardholder:

  1. who was a citizen of India at the time of, or at any time after the commencement of the Constitution of India i.e. 26.01.1950; or
  2. who was eligible to become a citizen of India on 26.01.1950
  3. who belonged to a territory that became part of India after 15.08.194
  4. who is a child or grandchild or a great grandchild of such a citizen
  5. who is a minor child of such persons mentioned above
  6. who is a minor child and whose both parents are citizens of India or one of the parents is a citizen of India
  7. spouse of foreign origin of a citizen of India or spouse of foreign origin of an Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) Cardholder registered under section 7A of India's Citizenship Act, 1955 and whose marriage has been registered and subsisted for a continuous period of not less than two years immediately preceding the presentation of the OCI application.

Who cannot apply?

No person, who or either of whose parents or grandparents or great grandparents is or had been a citizen of Pakistan, Bangladesh or such other country as the Government of India may, by notification in the Official Gazette, specify, shall be eligible for registration as an OCI Cardholder."

Note: As per Indian Mission Officer’s directions, BLS Intl. Submission Officer may request for additional documentation, which is not mentioned in the checklist, at the time of submission or during the processing of the application. If applicant needs to be contacted by HCI / CGI or BLS Intl.: Kindly ensure that you provide the current contact number and email address in your application form to avoid any delays.

Rules and regulation of Overseas Citizenship of Indian (OCI) process are subject to change by Indian Mission without any prior intimation to the applicant.

The decision to grant or refuse Overseas Citizenship of Indian (OCI) service is made solely by the officers at Indian Mission. BLS Intl. has no influence over the outcome of an application.

  • In Person:
    Two separate payments required of OCI application as per the direction of HCI / CGI.
    1. Draft or money order in favor of "The Consulate General of India - Toronto"
      (Note: Fees payable under this draft / money is for Consular fees + ICWF Charge only).
    2. In favor of BLS International Services Canada Inc. via Payment can be made by using the below mention modes only:
    1. Debit Card
    2. Cash (Applicant’s are requested to get exact cash as per number of applications)
  • (Note: Fees payable under this section is BLS Processing fee+ courier fees only).

  • Postal Applications:

    Two separate payments required of OCI application as per the direction of HCI / CGI.

    1. Draft or money order in favor of "The Consulate General of India - Toronto"
      (Note: Fees payable under this draft / money is for Consular fees + ICWF Charge only).
    2. In favor of BLS International Services Canada Inc. via
    1. Kindly Provide Demand Draft/Money order only in favor of BLS International Services Canada Inc., which includes BLS Service charges + Return courier fees, to send back your processed application.
    2. Return courier fees to be added in Demand Draft only if you have not paid online
    3. Kindly do not enclose any cash in your postal application envelope. BLS will not be responsible for the loss of cash or the postal orders.

Please note that postal applications will not be processed until the correct fee+ ICWF Charge, service charge and courier is paid. Personal cheques are not acceptable

Note: "We are not providing any pickup and drop off service for PO box address. Applicant has to arrange his/her own pickup and need to provide self addressed printed prepaid return envelope. Also, we do not guarantee for the delivery at PO box address".

Processing Time

Please be advised that the estimated processing times are mentioned below. However, how long an application will take to process is also dependent on the following factors such as the city the application was submitted in, in which city or country was the previous / old passport issued.

Please keep in mind that incomplete applications will lead to a delay in the processing of an application, and all applicant(s) are requested to comply with any changes that may occur during this time. You are requested to make your travel arrangements only after receiving relevant service.

The minimum processing time to return the original documents is 7-15 working days.
Issuance of OCI Booklet -4- 5 Weeks.

Note: Applications sent by post will take additional 3-4 working days for processing.

  • Processing time mentioned above is an approximate estimate from HCI / CGI. Therefore, BLS International has no influence on the processing time taking when under process at HCI / CGI
  • BLS International cannot guaranty the processing time that will be taken after normal processing time due to subject to clearance reason. Contact HCI / CGI procedure: Only after normal processing time has exceeded, applicant can contact the nearest Indian Mission via email for information beyond BLS International Service conditions
  • The estimated processing time mentioned below does not include the time that the courier company will take to deliver the passport.
  • BLS/HCI/CGI will not be liable for any claims of inconvenience or penalties should applicant need to make changes to their travel plans owing to the delays and/or any inconvenience caused due to any rejections
